Cavalry Years (1930s) – Digital Restoration of an Equestrian Photograph
Stabilization of a Vintage Action Print
Subject: Mounted rider captured in motion
Date: 1930s
Collection: Private Domestic Archive
This photograph documents an equestrian scene from the 1930s, preserved within a private family archive. Originally produced for personal use, the print was not intended for institutional preservation and exhibits material characteristics typical of mid-twentieth-century photographic paper.
The Condition
The original print presented silver mirroring, surface abrasions and localized structural fragility. Tonal flattening and loss of contrast reduced clarity of both rider and horse.
The Intervention
Following high-resolution digitization, Norne Legacy conducted a conservative digital restoration focused on structural coherence and tonal reconstruction.
Detail recovery: Reinforcement of subject definition while maintaining original grain and photographic texture.
Contrast rebalancing: Correction of tonal compression caused by aging and surface oxidation.
Material stabilization: Preparation of a secure digital master suitable for long-term storage and controlled reproduction.
All interventions were performed on digitized files to ensure the full protection of the original physical print.
